Rec Life Safety — Text Message Alerts

Program operated by Rec Life Outdoors (reclife.io). Last updated June 2026.

What this program is

Rec Life Safety sends SMS text alerts to the emergency contacts that a Rec Life Outdoors app user has personally designated. It exists so the people you choose can be notified if you trigger an SOS, mark yourself safe, or are overdue returning from a planned outdoor activity. This is a safety-notification program — not marketing.

How you opt in (consent)

A Rec Life Outdoors user adds you as an emergency contact (your name and mobile number) inside the app. Within seconds you receive a one-time confirmation text such as:

“Hi, you've been added as an emergency contact in Rec Life. Reply YES to confirm you'll receive safety alerts (SOS, check-ins, overdue notifications), or STOP to decline. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for info.”

You only receive further messages if you reply YES. Replying YES is your express consent to receive the safety texts described here. We log each opt-in with a timestamp and consent record. You are never added to any other messaging program, and your number is never shared or sold.

The opt-in flow, step by step

Step 1 — In the Rec Life app

Profile → Safety → Emergency Contacts → Add Contact. The user enters the contact's name and mobile number and must check the consent box (unchecked by default) before the Add button is enabled.

Add Emergency Contact

Jane Doe
(555) 123-4567
I confirm I have this person's permission to add them as my emergency contact and for Rec Life to send them safety text alerts (SOS, check-ins, overdue). They'll receive a one-time confirmation text. Msg & data rates may apply.
Add Contact

The checkbox is unchecked by default (active consent required); the Add button stays disabled until it is checked.

Step 2 — The contact confirms by text

The contact immediately receives a one-time verification text and only receives further messages after replying YES.

Hi, you've been added as an emergency contact in Rec Life. Reply YES to confirm you'll receive safety alerts (SOS, check-ins, overdue notifications), or STOP to decline. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for info.
YES
You're confirmed and will receive Rec Life safety alerts. Reply STOP anytime to unsubscribe.

That YES reply is the contact's express opt-in and is logged with a timestamp.

Message types & samples

  • “Rec Life Safety: Matt sent an SOS. Last known location: https://maps.google.com/?q=37.77,-122.41 — call them or local emergency services. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “Rec Life Safety: Matt is safe and has checked in. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • “Rec Life Safety: Matt is overdue from a planned activity (expected back 5:00 PM). Last known location: … — please attempt contact. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Message frequency

Messages are infrequent and event-driven — you only receive a text when the person who added you triggers an SOS, marks safe, or becomes overdue. There are no recurring or scheduled messages.

Cost

Message and data rates may apply. Rec Life Outdoors does not charge for these alerts; your mobile carrier's standard rates apply.

Opting out & help

Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe immediately — you will receive a final confirmation and no further texts. Reply START to opt back in. Reply HELP for help, or email support@reclife.io.
